Both Hillwood and Gateway Basketball skippers with their Principals

Gateway College, Kandy, one of the leading international schools in the island, which is celebrating 20 years in the Central Hills, is organising a Quadrangular Event in Football, Netball and Basketball among Trinity College, Hillwood College, Sylvester’s College and Gateway College which will kick off on 3 February.
This event will be an Annual Quadrangular Encounter which is the first in the Central Hills to commemorate with the 20th anniversary celebrations of Gateway College, Kandy.
Proceedings will commence with the Invitation Basketball encounter between the hosts and Hillwood College for the Girls. The second match will be between Gateway College, Kandy and St Sylvester’s College playing for the Boys event at the Gateway courts on 3 February. They will play for the Asoka Herath-Ranil Meetiyagoda Challenge Trophy.
Three days later on 6 February proceedings will be at the Trinity College Rugby Stadium in Pallekelle where Gateway will play Hillwood in Netball played for Rohini Alles-Somakumari Challenege Trophy. After the netball event Trinity and Gateway will battle it out in the Football encounter. This will be played for the R I T Alles-Rev. Ireland Jones Challenge Trophy.
Gateway Group Chairman Dr. Alles speaking at the media briefing stressed on the importance of sports and friendship among youth which is more important than winning at any cost. He said: “We wanted to start small and do it well. We are in operation in the Central Hills for 20 years and one of the leading international schools and the very first event of this nature in Kandy region. So for this event we selected one Government school, Sylvester’s, and two leading private schools, Trinity and Hillwood, along with Gateway Kandy.”
