Trinity 26 points
St. Anthony’s 5 points
Trinity College continued their unbeaten streak in the Dialog League Under 19 rugby tournament when they outclassed St. Anthony’s by 26 points (four tries, three conversions) to five points (one try) win at the Nittawela Rugby Stadium yesterday.
The game was played sans spectators due to the health issue in the country, where Trinity led 19/5 at the short breather.
Trinity played well with their three quarters working at every given opportunity. Their forwards and three quarters combined well to attack in Antonians’ territory most of the time. Their lineout too looked rock solid. Thamuditha Dodanwatte, Rahul Danaraj, Harsha Samarasinghe and Thidas Thanthirege played well for the Lions.
Meanwhile Antonians played well in patches. Their lineout was all over. Their Skipper Matheesha Amarasinghe played his heart out but lacked support from his teammates. He split Trinity a number of times but lacked the support and in the end the Antonians failed to convert good work into points.
Trinity drew first blood in the fourth minute of the game when their flyh alf Thamuditha Dodanwatte sliced through the Antonian defence to score. He added the extra two points to take an early 7/0 lead. Trinity went further ahead through a superb try by Centre, Harsha Samarasinghe. Soon afterwards Antonians replied with a try by their fly half Bawan Nishanth. Minutes later Trinity centre Harsha Samarasinghe dummied his way to score his second try of the match. Chamod Muthunayake added the extras.
After the turnaround Trinity scored through their flanker, Ruvishan Pananwela. In the end Antonians made number of attacks but lacked the finishing touches.
Trinity need to work on the error counts where they received four yellow cards in this encounter.
