Thulaib Hassen leads Royal at rugby

National Under 19 player and one of the most knowledgeable players in schools rugby arena, ThulaibHassen will lead Royal Rugby this year.

Thulaib Hassen leads Royal Rugby team in 2019

He represented the national team (Under 20) in the Asia Rugby Sevens where Sri Lanka was placed number 3 behind Hong Kong and Korea. He has represented Royal in 3 Bradby Shields and equal number of Michael Gunaratne (vs St. Thomas) and Milroy Fernando (Isipathana) encounters for the Reid Avenue outfit. Thulaib was a member of the League winning 2017 and 2018 outfits. Thulaibwho started his rugby career at the age of eight years, comes from a sporty family where his fatherAzad Hassen represented the DS rugby outfit while he is the grandson of Ibrahim Hamid and nephew of ZulkiHassen in which Royal holds the record for the highest aggregate in both legs accounting for 83 points. 

Bradby Shield (75th) encounter will see its first leg worked off at Pallekelle Rugby Stadium on 11 May with the return leg in Colombo at Royal Sports Complex two weeks later on 25 May. Royal will be going for a kill when they lock horns with Trinitians having secured the trophy for the last four years at Reid Avenue. (SJ)
