S. Thomas’ College edged out St. Joseph’s College by 24 points (four tries, two conversions) to 22 points (four tries, one conversion) to win the Lady Jayathilake Shield Schools Under-19 league rugby encounter, which was worked off at Longdon Place yesterday.
This win comes after a lapse of four years for the Mount Lavinia lads. At halftime, the winners led 12-10. The game was closely fought out between the two equally balanced sides. Despite the Joes threatening the Thomian try line, they unfortunately ran out of time. This was their second defeat after losing out to Kingswood in their first outing while the Thomians lost to Trinity. This is their first win for the season. The referee for the game was Ishanka Abeykoon.
