CR & FC continued their unbeaten run at the Dialog Inter Club League 2018/2019 when they beat Navy 28-22 at Welisara yesterday.
At halftime, CR led 19-15. Radeesha Seneviratne scored Navy’s first try, which was goaled by skipper Thilina Weerasinghe. But Tharinda hit back with three penalties for the Red Shirts within a span of 25 minutes to give the Longden Place club a 9-7 lead. Thlina put over a penalty for Navy to push the lead to 10-9. Mithila Perera scored the only CR try to have CR up 19-15 at halftime. Navy scored their try through the hard-working Musheen Faleel. The second half saw referee Jamaldeen send off Omalka, Radeesha and Chamikara for rough play. Two more Ratwatte penalties took the game further from the Sailors’ reach at 25-15.
Nirosh Perera scored for Navy with the former Josephian schoolboy Chathura Seneviratne on target with his kick at goal. Tharinda, who was in cracking form, once again put over another penalty to seal the game for CR with a 28-22 win, putting up a brave performance and collecting 23 points for the Red Shirts. (SJ)
