TVS, the renowned automobile brand was the title sponsor of the recently-concluded Bangladesh tour of Sri Lanka. Aptly named the TVS Cup, the tournament was a significant one for both cricket fans and the Sri Lankan cricket team. Sri Lanka won the series comprehensively by winning all three matches creating a record whitewash putting an end to the 44-month-long losing streak. The tournament also marked the retirement of legendary cricketer, Lasith Malinga with a full house of his fans bidding a majestic farewell.
TVS, as a beloved global automobile brand that enjoys a forceful presence in over 60 countries stepped in at the right time to sponsor a cricket tournament in Sri Lanka. TVS Cup enabled the Sri Lankan team to regain their momentum and allowed the younger generation to illustrate their talent.
Expressing his views on the series, TVS Lanka Chief Executive Officer Ravi Liyanage said, “We were pleased to be the title sponsor of a series that allowed our cricketing heroes to step back into their innate winning spirit. The passionate response from fans that we witnessed was a silent testament to how important the series was to them. They were able to watch their team take on Bangladesh on home soil and emerge victorious.”
As the Title sponsor, TVS Lanka gifted Man-of-the match of each ODI encounter with the only navigation enabled, technologically superior sporty smart scooter TVS Ntorq. The man-of-the-series received a racing enabled, best in class TVS Apache RTR 310.
“Parallel to the TVS Cup unveiling, the Company carried out a series of activities targeted at numerous stakeholders of the Company. TVS announced the ‘TVS cup down payment scheme’ to allow Sri Lankan youth to purchase two wheelers from a wide range of choices on offer. The Company reached out to channel partners and well-wishers with free tickets to the matches. Numerous winners of media events won coveted TVS motor cycles during the tournament while spectators at each venue received complimentary gifts from the Company. TVS Cup was an opportune platform for the Sri Lankan cricket team to recapture their winning spirit,” commented Head of Marketing and New Business Ushan Wijewardena.
Former Sri Lanka captain, Angelo Matthews stepped back into his form with fine performances in the three ODIs. He clinched the man of the series title and won an Apache RTR 310 worth over Rs. 1.3 million. TVS presented retiring hero, Lasith Malinga with another Apache RTR 310. The model is globally referred as ‘Scarily Fast’, a title worthy of the fast bowler himself and boasts features such as track tuned 6-speed gear box and on-board race computer.
The first ODI was a fairy tale sending off to Lasith Malinga, ‘King of yokers’. Team Sri Lanka scored its highest score of the tournament in the first ODI and it featured a much-awaited batting extravaganza from the team’s top order batsmen. While Sri Lanka won the match comprehensively by 91 runs, Lasith Malinga ended his international career bagging three wickets. In true Malinga style, he got his first wicket of the game in first over itself. The man of the match, Kusla Janith who scored a century won a TVS Ntorq scooter, which gained swift penetration in the Sri Lankan market being packed with over 30 first-ever features on a scooter such as a ‘digitally enabled console’ and ‘Smart Connect’.
The second ODI too was an easy win as the mighty lions cruised to victory by 7 wickets with 32 balls remaining. The quick fire of 82 runs from the young opener Wishwa Fernando claimed him the man of the match title and a TVS Ntorq.
The third and the final ODI again proved that the Sri Lankan team was on a winning spree when they reached almost close to a triple century score and won the match by a tall margin.
