Former Prince of Wales' captain and right-arm leg-spinner Suwath Mendis took four wickets for 37 runs and skipper and opener Malindu Maduranga smashed an unbeaten 73 off 45 balls inclusive of seven sixes and three fours as CCC crushed Kandy Customs CC by seven wickets in a SLC Major Club Youth (Under 23) match played at Maitland Crescent yesterday.
In a match reduced to 48 overs because of rain Kandy Customs invited to bat first were bundled out for 116 with only opener Thimira Malshan (31) and Rashmika Madushanka (41) making any sort of worthwhile contribution to their total.
CCC began their run chase in haste with openers Maduranga and Omesh Mendis (21) posting 77 off just 44 balls. Although CCC lost three cheap wickets for seven runs Maduranga was there until the end to ensure victory and with it a bonus point as well which saw them take their tally to 15 points – four adrift of Group D leaders SSC.
Scores: Kandy Customs CC 116 (44.3) (Thimira Malshan 31, Rashmika Madushanka 41, Suwath Mendis 4/37)
CCC 117-3 (14.4) (Malindu Maduranga 73 n.o., Omesh Mendis 21, Methushan Thilina 2/28)
