St. John’s College edges past rivals Jaffna Central College by two wickets in limited overs match

The cricket grounds at St. John’s College in Jaffna reverberated to excited cheering from spectators on 16 March, as the One-Day encounter between Jaffna schools St. John’s College and Jaffna Central College got underway. The trophy was lifted by hosts St. John’s College, who beat arch-rival Jaffna Central by two wickets. The match kicked off with Jaffna Central winning the toss and electing to bat first, succeeding in posting 221 runs for 10 wickets in 46 overs on the scoreboard. Raring to win on their home turf, St. John’s College scored 222 runs for eight wickets in 48 overs in response to lift the limited encounter trophy. The winning side’s debonair batsman Antony Pillai Sukethan, who top-scored, was awarded the Man of the Match trophy. The successful conclusion of this 17th limited overs encounter goes down in history as the 10th match won by St. John’s as against seven won by Jaffna Central College. Supported by Mobitel as Principal Sponsor, the event attracted sports enthusiasts, students, teachers and parents from Jaffna and surrounding areas, who flocked to witness and cheer every single exciting moment of the sporting encounter.
