Sri Lanka Men’s Hockey outfit qualified for the Asian Games in China next year when they beat Uzbekistan encounter in the 5th place play off. This qualifying round of matches between nine teams took place in Thailand recently. Top five teams book their berth for the Asian Games in China next year.
The encounter ended three a piece after all four quarters. In the end game went into penalty shootout where Sri Lanka won 3/1 to end on number five position earn their berth for the Asian Games in 2023.
Sri Lanka had a pathetic first round losing out to Bangladesh 2/5 and Indonesia 1/3 but were able to get the better of Singapore 5/2. After losing out the semi-final opportunity Sri Lanka’s chances were fading away, but they were able to beat the Hong Kong outfit 5/2 and Uzbekistan in the play off for the 5th position.
Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Singapore, Oman, Thailand, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan participated in this event with Oman, Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan having qualified for the Asian Games next year.
