Sri Lanka recorded their first victory in the Netball World Cup 2019 beating Singapore 88 goals to 50.
Sri Lanka dominated the first quarter sealing the victory with a 10 goal margin (21-11). Sri Lankan domination continued in the second quarter as well and Singapore resistance was no sufficient to create any impact for the advancing Sri Lankan lasses. Lankans were leading 45 goals to 22 at the half time with the victory in the second quarter 24-11.
Singapore made few attempt narrow the gap between the two sides but Lankans did not open the flood gates for the opponents and kept the momentum during the next two quarters to have something to celebrate in their outing at the Netball world Cup. Lankans took the third quarter 26-14 goals and fourth 17-4 to secure victory at the long whistle.
It was a repeat of the finals of the 2018 Asian Championship where Sri Lanka secured victory 69 goals to 50 and when they met last.
Both sides lost all three of their group games and as a result both teams will finished in 13th-16th spot overall after preliminary matches.
Sri Lankans faced Samoa on 16 July and Fiji on 17 July as their two other second round pool matches. The match with Samoa will get underway at 11.25 a.m. (Sri Lanka time 3.55 p.m.) while Fiji will meet Sri Lanka on 17 July at 9 a.m. (2.30 p.m. Sri Lanka time).
