Sri Lanka Schools Under16 ten a side rugby tournament will be worked off today (4 August) and tomorrow in Kandy. First day’s play will take place at Digana Stadium and Trinity College Rugby Stadium in Pallekelle. Second day will be hosted by Bogambara Stadium.
The Tournament will be worked off in four groups with Trinity defending their title where they beat Kingswood College in the last year’s final played at the Bogambara Stadium in a tensed thriller where the game ended in a 12 apiece. The game went in to extra time where Trinity emerged champions. Sylvester’s, St. Joseph’s and Rajans were the winners the Shield, Bowl and Plate Champions respectively.
The Under 16 tournament will be an important part in local rugby as the governing body, Sri Lanka Rugby trying to arrange for a tournament in Asian region for this segment which never happened before. This year’s tournament will be a ten a side event with players born on or after 1 January 2003 eligible to play.
Trinity are the defending champions of the Under 16 event at the 2017 tournament. (SJ)
