New SLR executive members with Sports Minister Faiszal Mustapha
By Shamseer Jaleel
Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) conducted its previously postponed Annual General Meeting (AGM) at a leading hotel in Colombo last weekend.
Former Royal, CR& FC and Sri Lanka Number 8 Lasitha Gunaratne was appointed the President taking over from Asanga Seneviratne.
Former Peterite and Petersons SC Number 8 Rizly Ilyas comes back as the Deputy President with Nazeem Mohamed, former CH&FC Number 8 and National Sevens skipper taking over the Vice President’s position.
Further, according to a reliable source, Sri Lanka Rugby Chief Executive Officer Priyantha Ekanayake is tipped to resign in the near future. It’s very unlikely that the SLR will fill this position due to the high debts in their monthly accounts.
All other executive and council members were appointed uncontested at this year’s committee.
