The Sri Lanka Masters Hockey Association (SLMHA), the officially appointed organisation in Sri Lanka which is registered with the World Masters Hockey (WMH), has announced the trials for selection of the team for the 2020 World Cup in England and South Africa.
SLMHA teams will participate at the Masters World Cup scheduled in England (Age 35+ and Age 40+) and South Africa (Age 45+, 50+, 55+ and 60+) during August and September 2020.
Both the Sri Lanka men’s and women’s masters teams first participated in the 2018 Masters World Cup in Spain. This is the second time that both genders will participate in the Masters World Cup.
The SLMHA looks forward to gathering all former national players, current club players and mercantile players for the trials which will be conducted on 9 and 16 February (both Sundays) at 8.30 a.m. to 11.00 a.m. at the Astro Turf at Reid Avenue, Colombo 7. Selection for players is in accordance with the below mentioned requirements.
In addition to the already selected pool members of 50 female hockey players during the recently concluded tournament on 27 December 2019, a final trial or selection will be held on 21 February from 2.00 p.m. onwards at the Astro Turf Grounds for any player who wishes to be part of the Age Above 35 and Age Above 40 World Cup contingents as per the requirements specified for men in both age categories.
21 February 2020 will be a compulsory day for women and will be the final opportunity provided for all female hockey players.
