Sri Lanka Junior Golf Championship 2017 tees off with Prima Sunrise at RCGC

  • Taniya and Kayla leading Girls’ category at one under par
  • Vinod leads Boys’ Gold Division, Duwarshan leads Boys’ Silver Division, Shanal Binuksha leads Boys’ Bronze Division and Kaya Daluwatte leads Boys’ Copper Division after Round 1

 The Sri Lanka Junior Golf Championship 2017, sponsored by Prima Sunrise Bread, got off to a great start with Taniya Minel Balasuriya and Kayla Perera tied as joint leaders in the Girls Gold and Silver age divisions, returning one under scores of 71 on the Par 72 RCGC Ladies’ scorecard. 

Fifteen-year-old Taniya and 14-year-old Kayla did the girls proud by shooting an excellent sub-par opening round to gain the best scores returned in Round 1 of the Prima Sunrise Junior Golf Championship. Vinod Weerasinghe, with six birdies, returned a two over par 73 to lead the boys in the Gold Division, three strokes ahead of Darren Hall.Duwarshan from Nuwara Eliya leads the Boys’ Silver Division with 82, one stroke ahead of T. Vkash. In the Bronze Division played over 14 holes, 10-year old Shanal Binushka held a clear six-stroke lead over M. Lidurshan of NEGC , with a 14-hole 64, eight over par. Kaya Daluwatte led the Cooper Division played over nine holes for the age group category Nine Years and Under with a 42, one stroke ahead of Kvahn Tejwani. The Junior Golf Championship is played over three days, 54 holes for the Gold and Silver categories, whilst the Bronze Division is over 42 holes and the Copper Division is conducted over 27 holes. The second round commences Thursday morning and the final round will conclude the championship on Friday morning, followed by the prize-giving at the

Royal Colombo Golf Club.
