Abans will sponsor Sri Lanka Air Force cycle race 2022
Sri Lanka Air Force conducted Guwanhamuda Papedi Sawariya, cycling event will take place from 4 to 6 March for the 23rd occasion.
Abans will be the principal sponsor while Mobitel, Bank of Ceylon, Peoples Insurance, Maliban and Link Natural are the co-sponsors.
The annual competition which coincides with the 71st anniversary of Sri Lanka Air Force is expected to attract over 180 top cyclists in the country. The organisers also expect foreign competitors. The three-day race will commence opposite the Sri Lanka Air Force headquarters in Colombo and will cover a total distance of over 400 km.
On day one, the race will kick off from Colombo at 8 a.m. and will conclude at Puttalam. On day two, the race will start from Puttalam and route to Dambulla via Anuradhapura.
The final day will see the race starting from Anuradhapura and route through Narammala and Giriulla before ending at Katunayake.
The women’s race will be a one-day event with the race starting at Puttalam and covering a distance of 96 km before ending at Katunayake. The women’s race will take place on 6 March.
More than 50 competitors are expected to take part in this event. Attractive prize money is on offer not only for the Men’s event but also for the Women’s segment.
The awards presentation will be held on 6 March under the patronage of Air Marshal Sudharshana Pathirana at Eagle’s Lagoon View Hotel in the evening hours start from 5 p.m. onwards.
Sonal de Silva of the Sri Lanka Port Authority is the defending champion in the Men’s segment while Udeshini Niranjani of Sri Lanka Army will defend the Women’s title.
