SPINNER hosted the fourth instalment of Spinfit Sundown on 13 August to encourage more Sri Lankans to compete in running, cycling and multi-sport Duathlons.
The registration fees of the event were in aid of the program ‘Re-Wheel Sri Lanka’, an initiative to recycle used bikes and donate them to deserving children. Spinfit Sundown is now becoming the main platform to promote Duathlon where participants have to complete a running leg, followed by a cycling leg and then another running leg as a single event. This is a challenging and exciting event involving two key endurance sports, such as cycling and running. A 2 km and 10 km running race and a series of mountain biking races were held as well for added variety. The event was organised in a sports-meet style for over 250 adults and 100 children. The event was organised by spinner with a vision of “an active, healthy and competitive Sri Lanka”. In addition, spinfit sundown events have pledged to support the ‘Re-Wheel Sri Lanka’ program, working toward the dream of giving every Sri Lankan child the joy of riding a bicycle. The program consists of collecting and recycling used children’s bicycles and donating them to a deserving child, in turn sharing the wealth of health and confidence to win. Used bicycles can be donated by contacting 0702 444 444. Several corporate sponsors, such as HNB, F5 and A-Life by Amante have committed partnerships to support this event in the long run.
The next SPINNER event will be held in November in the form of a sports workshop. Participants may register by texting 0702 444 444.
