Trinity College were through to the quarter final of the Singer Cup Under 17 Inter school cricket tournament when they beat Mahinda College by 31 runs at the Asgiriya Stadium in Kandy. The encounter was reduced to 42 overs due to wet outfield in Kandy.
Highlight of the match was a fine half century by opening bat Ramindu Somaratne who stroked a quick fire unbeaten 57 for the Kandy lads which was the back-borne of the Trinity innings. Trinity scored 160 over 5 runs per over but lost quick wickets. In reply the team from Down South were in deep trouble chasing the modest total were shot out for 130.
Trinity will meet St. Sebastian’s in the quarter final.
