Isipathana’s skipper Madushika Sandaruwan claimed ten wickets as 24 wickets fell on day one of the under-19 traditional encounter between Isipathana College and President’s College Kotte which is being played at the Colts ground.
Invited to bat first, the visitors were restricted to 119 with Madushika capturing seven for 30 and Thevindu Dikwella claiming two wickets. Thashika Nirmal, Iranga Hashan and Vikum Kalhara were the chief run getters.
President’s College did well to restrict the Isipathana first essay to 130. Nirmal captured four wickets while Senan Kesara and Thivein Thewmika captured two wickets each. Ravindu Rathnayaka was
unlucky to be stumped on 48.
The visitors were 3/03 in the second over of their second essay, but a 43-run partnership between skipper Hashan and wicketkeeper Akila Roshan and another unbeaten 46-run stand between Akila Roshan and Kalhara saw them through to 92/4 at stumps on day one. Sandaruwan captured three wickets and is sure to claim more when play resumes today.
