Sri Lanka Navy Sports Club will host Sri Lanka Police Sports Club in the opening Inter-Club Rugby encounter for 2022/2023 rugby season which will take place at Welisara on 9 December.

Kick-off is scheduled at 4 p.m.

The much looked forward traditional encounter between CR and FC, who are celebrating their Centenary year will be up against Havelock SC at Havelock Park on 10 December. This is assured to attract a very good Colombo crowd. This encounter will be played for Mathysz Trophy.

Also the Red Shirts will be all out to make a mark of themselves in a landmark year of rugby. Their President, Ted Muttiah the 1982 Royal skipper and national player is all out to make it happen this year. Already several leading players have joined the Longdon Place club.

Air Force will host the CH and FC at Ratmalana on 11 December while the Nittawela Rugby Stadium will be packed with Kandy supporters when they host Sri Lanka Army SC. Kandy SC are the defending champions.

Kandy SC will be led by Damith Dissanayake former Trinity hooker and got a cracking side. They are the defending champions. They have players such as Lavanga Perera, Kavindu Perera, Tharinda Ratwatte, Yakoob Ali and Srinarth Sooriyabandara. They will be missing the services of Jason Dissanayake and Buwanka Udangamua as both migrated along with Roshan Weeraratne. Further Buddhima Piyaratne did not sign his contract yet as he is overseases at present.

Fazil Marija will be their Head Coach who is also Heading the role at Trinity College for 2022/2023.

Referees give green light to blow at games?

According to a reliable source, after several round of talks, Sri Lanka Referees Society agreed to blow at the Inter-Club rugby encounters. There were nearly Rs. 7 million amounting as payment was in arrears from the previous Sri Lanka Rugby committee which was dragged on without making payments. Both SLR and Sri Lanka Referees Society will come in to an agreement and how the earlier debts will be settled. Sri Lanka Referees Society also had asked for a representation in the Council.
