Sri Lanka Cricket decided to send Nuwan Soyza on compulsory leave with immediate effect after the ICC charged him under the Anti-Corruption Code.
Soyza is working as a bowling coach at the SLC.
SLC said it has started work towards establishing a fully-fledged anti-corruption unit in the country. SLC has already held two dialogues with the International Cricket Council to seek its support towards this move.
As another forward step, the SLC’s Competent Authority Kamal Pathmasiri, CEO Ashley De Silva and AG Department Deputy Solicitor General Sumathi Dharmawardena will travel to UK in the near future to meet the UK’s Chief Prosecutor, to discuss the modality of setting up such a mechanism in Sri Lanka.
Sports Minister Faiszer Musthapha has assured SLC that he will work towards introducing tough anti-corruption laws in Sri Lanka.
SLC said the Minister is constantly engaged with the SLC on this matter, and is of the view that setting up a prudent anti-corruption mechanism in Sri Lanka is vital for the future of the game.
