SLC increases annual grant to Major clubs

  • Each of 26 clubs to get Rs. 27.5 million a year

Sri Lanka Cricket has increased by Rs. 2.5 million per club the annual tournament grant given to Major Clubs who compete in their inter-club tournaments across all formats from this year.

This increase means that each of the 26 clubs will receive an annual grant of Rs. 27.5 million to be utilised during the Major club season.

The SLC’s Executive Committee that approved the increase said that it was done taking into consideration the current economic climate in the country.

Accordingly, SLC will invest a total of Rs. 715 million as tournament grants for the Major clubs.

Other major decisions taken by the SLC at its Executive Committee meeting on Tuesday:

Sri Lanka Under 19 Youth League 2022

SLC will conduct an Under 19 Youth League, as part of its move toward building a core group of young players for the next Under 19 World Cup and beyond. The inaugural tournament to be conducted from 19 to 28 June in Kandy will consist of five teams, namely, Colombo-South, Colombo-North, Galle, Kandy and Dambulla.

A squad will consist of 13 players and two standby players, selected by the Junior Selectors. The 50 over format tournament with a total of 11 matches will be played at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium and Asgiriya Cricket Stadium.

 

T20 Invitational Women’s Tournament 

A decision was taken to conduct a Women’s T20 Invitational Tournament for Division 1 Clubs and Major Clubs during the ongoing year. Accordingly, six Division 1 clubs and five Major clubs will take part in the tournament, which is expected to be played in June. The move is aimed at strengthening women’s cricket in Sri Lanka.

 

India Women’s Team to tour Sri Lanka

The Indian Women’s cricket team will tour Sri Lanka in June to play three ODIs and Three T20Is. The ODI series will be played under the ICC Women’s Championship.

 

Grants for 09 major clubs

A decision was taken to grant Rs. 5 million each to nine major clubs who have their own grounds. The grant is aimed at helping the clubs to maintain and enhance their grounds and infrastructure.

 

Outright grant for Colts CC

A decision was taken to make an outright grant of Rs. 20 million, in addition to the Rs. 40 million given to Colts Cricket Club towards the construction of a new club house and a pavilion.

Renovation of SLC bungalows at Surrey Village

The two SLC-owned bungalows at Surrey Village Cricket Ground, Maggona will be renovated. Once renovated, the facility will be used to provide accommodation for club teams, who come to play cricket at the venue.
