Last year’s losing finalist Ragama CC qualified for the final of the SLC Major Limited Over tournament when their match against defending champions NCC ended in a no-result at the Army grounds – Dombagoda yesterday.
In the other semi-final continued at Surrey Village – Maggona, Tamil Union beat Sri Lanka Army SC by 47 runs under the Duckworth/Lewis method to go through to the final.
The final, which carries prize money of Rs. 750,000 for the winner and Rs. 500,000 for the runner-up, will be played at the P. Sara Oval today. There will be a reserve day for it to be continued the following day if a conclusive result cannot be reached today.
It was sweet revenge for Ragama CC to qualify ahead of NCC to whom they lost the final last year, but not in this manner. Ragama CC qualified because they headed Group B.
The match was extended to the second day yesterday, but unfortunately for NCC there was no play due to wet ground conditions and Ragama CC’s score stood at 114/5.
In the other semi-final where there was some play possible, Army SC, chasing a revised target of 227 from 43 overs, were dismissed for 179 with more than ten overs to spare despite the Tamil Union bowlers conceding 26 runs off wides.
