The Sri Lankan contingent participating in the Commonwealth Games in the Gold Coast of Australia will begin their campaign tomorrow.
The XXI Commonwealth Games will begin with its opening ceremony today and will continue until 15 April, the date of its closing ceremony.
The first day’s competition will see action in gymnastics, swimming and weightlifting and the first round of events in boxing, squash and table tennis.
Rugby will kick off on 14 April, with the Sri Lankan Sevens outfit facing Fiji, Wales and Uganda. If Sri Lanka secures a minimum of second position in the group then they will make it into a play-off for fifth-eighth position on the final day.
Weightlifting will take place from 5-9 April at the Carrara Sports and Leisure Centre with Sri Lanka Games Captain Chinthana Vidanage in action.
Sri Lanka will take part in aquatics, athletics, badminton, boxing, cycling, gymnastics, rugby sevens shooting, squash, table tennis, weightlifting and wrestling. (SJ)
