Former Kingswood, Kandy SC, Police SC fly half and former Head Coach of Navy SC, Havelocks SC and Indian Rugby team, Ronny Ibrahim took charge of his alma mater, Kingswood College, as the Rugby Consultant for 2018.
Ronny represented the Randles Hill school (1983-87) leading his outfit in 1986. During his school leadership Kingswood did well in the League and Premadasa trophy to end as the losing semifinalist to Trinity outfit led by Tyrelle Rajapakse.
After leaving school he represented Police SC at rugby before taking up a coaching career. He started off by coaching Kingswood in 2000. He produced some outstanding outfits at Randles Hill where they ended as triple champions. Then he moved to Colombo to coach the Thomians before taking over Navy and Indian Rugby, and then Havies, his last assignment. During his Havies assignment he looked after Science College as well.
At national level he was in charge of the Sri Lanka Sevens outfit which toured China. In the fifteens rugby he took Sri Lanka to a landmark win over Poland at the Serendib Cup which was a landmark win for the country since Poland is well ahead in the world rugby ranking. He was assistant to George Simpkin during the Under 20 tour to Pakistan with the Junior national outfit.
Speaking to Daily FT Ronny said, “I want to take Kingswood into round 2. I will be working with Coach Gamage and visiting Kandy twice a week since I am presently located in Colombo. Young lads are a disciplined lot and a few of them played rugby last year as well.”
