Kandy Sports Club will be fielding a strong outfit for the first leg of the Dialog Inter-Club Sevens tournament which will take place at the racecourse rugby grounds on 2 and 3 June.
Navy SC will be defending their title with Buddhima Piyaratne from the Welisara outfit named as the Player of the Tournament last year. Kandy did not field an outfit last year.
The star-studded Kandy will be led by former Science College player Richard Dharmapala. Notable absentees are Buwanka Udangamuwa and Nigel Ratwatte who are both nursing injuries. A surprise package is the former Rajans player Chamilka Perera, who is coming into the big league with some strong performances at training sessions.
Former Kingswood, Kandy and national Sevens skipper Fazil Marija will be making his debut as the Head Coach of Kandy at this Sevens tournament. Meanwhile, CR&FC have pulled out from this Sevens event due to injuries to some of their players.
Kandy SC: Richard Dharmapala (Capt.), Gayan Weeraratne, Danushka Dyan, Jason Dissanayake, Sayuru Anthony, Tharindu Chathuranga, Oshan Perera, Roshan Weeraratne, Thilina Wijesinghe, Heshan Kalhara, Lavanga Perera, Vishwamithra Jayasinghe, Srinath Sooriyabandara, Chamilka Perera and Dahunshka Ranjan.
