Junior golfers in action at RCGC
Kaya Daluwatta improved on the second day with 72 maintaining her lead by 14 shots. Sherin Balasuriya followed up her opening round of 78, with 82 taking her to a total score of 160. Kaya goes to the final day with a comfortable lead in the Combined Gold/Silver Division in the Girls Open Championship. Dhevinka Kanag-Iswaran lying third with two rounds of 90 and in fourth position, Dinumi Sanjana Rajapakshe of Anuradhapura closely behind.
Yannik Kumara maintained his form with 69 on the second day, taking him to a four-shot lead from K. Dhanushan also playing same form with 71 gross on day two. Nirekh Tejwani, last year’s junior national titleholder, remains in the game with four and two shots behind the leader group. Levon Niyarepola and Haroon Aslam are in the fourth and fifth positions respectively. We are likely to see exhibition golf by the young golfers.
In the Silver Division Boys age group category 12-14+, Reshan Algama, Musar Shariff, Varun Fernando, Jacob Norton, Kvahn Tejwani and Shanal Binushka are to fight for top positions in the final round.
The Bronze Division played over three rounds of 18 holes from red tees, Thejas Rathiskanth and Kaiyan Johnpillai setting up an interesting finish in the last round in the Bronze Division for the age group category 10-11 yrs.
The most junior category, Copper Division, playing nine holes Revaan Amarasinghe showed consistency with another good score of 48, followed by Saqeeb Zuhar 53 and Danik Daluwatte 63 on day two. Anuja Methsara from Anuradhapura is in contention for fourth place.
The final round of the Prima Sunrise Junior Open Championship 2021 promises to be a high standard of golf. Prize giving is scheduled for 4:15 p.m. at the Royal Colombo Golf Club. The tournament is sponsored by Prima Sunrise Bread and organised by the Sri Lanka Golf Union.
