Referees Society Secretary Dinka Peiris yesterday revealed the outcome of review meeting on the Havies vs. Kandy SC match last week.
Havelock Sports Club officially lodged a complaint to Sri Lanka Rugby (SLR) on 12 points claiming that the Match Official (Aaqil) was wrong or the decision is not as per the laws of the game.
“The complaint was forwarded to us by SLR and we were asked to be present for a discussion with the SLR and Referees Joint Review Committee, with the presence of Havelock Sports Club representatives. The meeting took place on 23 January at the SLR office,” Peiris said.
“Out of the 12 incidents, watched on three incidents, I, as the Coach Match Official (Dinka) accepted the claim that Havies was correct. Another two of them, Aaqil was correct, but had he given the correct signal for advantage or gone for a penalty try before the next infringement and issue of a yellow card for a Kandy player, these 2 points would not have been on the Havies list,” Peiris said.
He added that the rest of the seven incidents all accepted Aaqil was correct.
Dinka thanked SLR for arranging a quick meeting with Havies and the Referees Review Committee to iron out the issue and ensure the league proceeds smoothly. (SJ)
