‘Tuk Tuk’ is a word that rings in everyone’s mind when Sri Lanka is mentioned in any conversation. Tuk Tuks have also transcended from being just a mode of transport, into being a lifestyle icon of Sri Lanka’s fabric.
Keeping up with the lifestyle of the local masses Red Bull Tuk It was conceptualised to establish Red Bull’s revitalising body and mind tagline along with the rebellious and adventurous persona in the minds of everyday Sri Lankans.
Red Bull Tuk It returned for a third time to take Sri Lanka’s most adventurous Tuk Tuk drivers on a journey that went through more than 15 towns across the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern Provinces, covering more than 350 km that lasted more than 36 hours.
After two extremely successful Red Bull Tuk It events in 2017 and 2018 which ended in cool, calm Nuwara Eliya, and chill, laid back resort town of Negombo respectively, it took the enthusiastic participants to the picturesque southern coastal heritage city of Galle in Red Bull Tuk It 2019.
The obstacle stage of Red Bull Tuk It kicked off on the bright and sunny 9th morning at Thunder Valley – Moonamale Estate, Kaluaggala. The obstacle stage tested the participants for their ability to manage time and judge the terrain presented – which contained many of the challenges that they will encounter in the rally stage that followed.
After a gruelling 20+ hour trudge through many estates and unfriendly jungle terrain, the participants gathered at the Samanala Grounds in Galle.
Ambalangoda Team managed to overcome the Red Bull Tuk It challenge for 2019 and emerged the winners of this year’s event. Team Fun Rider clinched the second spot whilst Nawagamu Motar 04 claimed the 3rd place.
Prizes were also given out to the Most Creative Tuk Tuks, which were won by Black Cats Pitipana, Golden Lion and Red Bull Power for their impressive display of creativity on their Tuk Tuks. “Red Bull Tuk It’s activities and event course is guaranteed to prove an amazingly thrilling experience to the participants. Not necessarily physical, but by accomplishing tasks which are a combination of active adventure, getting to grips with tasks of local traditions and then the ultimate satisfaction of reaching the end brings the essence of what the project is about,” said Red Bull Tuk It Race Director Sean Hameed. “Red Bull Tuk It will be done entirely in the tuk-tuk driven by your team and will be packed with excitement,” he further noted.
