By Shamseer Jaleel
reporting from Sooriyawewa
The encounter between the Jaffna Stallions and the Dambulla Viiking was washed out with only seven overs bowled, after heavy rain interrupted play at the Mahinda Rajapakse International Cricket Stadium in Sooriyawewa last night. As such, both Jaffna and Dambulla now top the points table with nine points each.
Prior to the arrival of the rain, Jaffna won the toss and put Dambulla to take first lease of the wicket. Sadeera Samarawickrama and Niroshan Dickwella opened the batting for Dambulla. After several close calls Sadeera played across to Suranga Lakmal and was trapped LBW cheaply with score on six. Though Angelo Perera joined Dickwella he too did not last long, going for a big shot he lost his wicket for six runs when the score was on 27. Soon after Samit Patel was out stumped, putting Dambulla in a spot of bother losing at 37 for 3. Dasun Shanaka joined Dickwella and batted a few more balls before heavy rain forced the players out of the ground. Play was called off a few hours later. Dickwella was in good form, unbeaten on 28, inclusive of five boundaries. Today there will be a rest game for all 5 teams.
Dambulla 42 for 3 in 7 overs
