Left-handed golfer, Prabath Gamage was in sensational form at the 10th Commanders Cup Golf Tournament 2023 which took place at the picturesque Eagle Golf Link in China Bay, Trincomalee last weekend. He won the Men’s segment of the Commanders Cup for 2023.
More than 100 golfers registered for the event including 18 lady golfers for this annual event which took place with a colourful awards ceremony the same night in Trincomalee.
Prabath Gamage who played consistent golf in a challenging course at Trincomalee finished off by collecting 35 points. There was a close tussle for the number two position between Rtd. Maj Gen Srinath Rajapakse and A.W.M. Reza. On count back Srinarth Rajapakse won. Both accounted for 33 points each.
In the Longest Drive for the Men’s which was won by Rtd Maj Gen Srinath Rajapakse with Nearest to the Pin winner was Nishantha Perera who showed top class accuracy in his shots. Both the Longest Drive and Nearest to the Pin in the ladies’ segment were won by Anuk Chitty.
In the Eagles Challenge trophy Longest Drive was won by Group Captain Dhammika Samarakoon and Nearest to the Pin was won by the former Rajans golfer, Air Vice Marshal Udula Wijesinghe. With the 10th year the Commanders Cup being held this year a special event was organised in the 10th hole with the Nearest to the Pin award given which was won by Wing Comm Viraj Gamage. Eagle Challenge Trophy for the Tri forces was won by Group Captain J.G. Jayalath with Air Vice Marshal Udula Wijesinghe ending as runner up.
Manori Jayakody won the women’s segment of the Commanders Cup 2023 with Vivienne Fowler Watt becoming runner-up.
The Commander’s Cup was organised by the Sri Lanka Air Force headed by Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana with Air Vice Marshal Prasanna Ranasinghe heading the organising committee. Sri Lanka Air Force taking a leading role in promoting sports in the country specialising in golf and Cycling.(SJ)
