St. Peter’s College secured the sevens title when they edged out the Thomians 19/17 in a tensed Cup final at the Royal Sports Complex yesterday. Yesterday was the second day of the Western Province School Under 19 Sevens which was worked off for Segment A.
Thomians drew first blood through scrum half N.S. Perera try. O. Hettiarachchi who had a grand outing in this tournament powered his way for the second Thomian try. Peterites bounced back just before the short whistle through Kushan Tharindu and T Ranasinghe tries. The lads from Bambalapitiya took the lead at the short breather 14/12. After the turns around Peterite skipper, Ishan Fernando scored a try. Though Thomian scored one more try through A. Perera but they could not convert as the match ended favouring the Peterites. The lads from Bambalapitiya was coached by veteran Sanath Martis and Peterite Rugby Foundation President Mangala Dharmapriya.
D.S. Senanayake shocked Royal College by securing the Plate with a 21/5 win while Wesley beat Science 19/7 to take home the Bowl. Isipathana did not return home empty handed as they took the Shield by beating Thurstan 36/0.
