Former Sri Lanka white ball bowler Chaminda Bandara in action for Nugegoda SWC
On a gloomy and rain-affected day that saw five of the six matches in the SLC Major T20 inter-club tournament end in a No Result without a single ball bowled, Panadura SC were the only lucky ones defying the weather gods to beat Nugegoda SWC by 25 runs.
In a game reduced to 11 overs a side, Panadura SC invited to bat first scored 90-8 and then through their spinners Roshan Wijenayake and Tharindu Kaushal restricted Nugegoda SWC to 65-8.
Wijenayake, a slow left-arm slow orthodox bowler playing in only his third T20 match at the age of 33 took three wickets for nine runs. He was ably assisted by Kaushal, the former Sri Lanka off-spinner who took two wickets for 11 runs.
