The 86th Nuwara-Eliya Golf Club (NEGC), Club Championship will take place today (26) and tomorrow (27) at their golf course in Nuwara-Eliya.
Tee off is expected to be at 7 a.m. on both days.
This event is considered as the club’s annual blue ribbon tournament of the year. School boy golfing sensation from Trinity College Kandy, Haroon Aslam, who ended as the runner up is a top contender along with Kushal Johnpillai, Ranil Peiris and Chanaka Perera could also be a threat to the youngster.
In the Ladies event, with defending champion Niloo pulling out, now the battle for top spot will be between Kayla Perera and Kaya Daluwatte.
More than 70 golfers are expected to take part in this annual blue ribbon event which is expected to take place under strict health guidelines by the NEGC.
Format will be two days of stroke play where the overall champion will be decided on the best gross score. Further, players will compete for the Gold Medal which is awarded for the best gross score on day two. The Gold Medal is also a Board event. Both Men’s and Ladies events will take place concurrently.
Segment will see all three A, B and C worked off along with the Ladies event and already attracted a very large membership for this event which will see strict health conditions being followed by the club as usual. Initial days play will see round 1 being worked off and the second day the final round.
