Red Shirts pulled off a fantastic win courtesy some cohesive rugby in the later half to beat Police SC 36/19 in their Nippon Paint Inter Club Rugby league 2022/2023 encounter which was worked off at Longdon Place last evening.
At the short breather scores were 12 a-piece.
Yohan Peiris’s 2 penalty and Prince Chamara drop goal took the Cops into an early 9/0 lead but Ashan Darling scored for the Red Shirts to reduce the gap to 4 points. Ruchira Ekanayake try and Thenuka Nannayakkara conversion took the CR into a 12/0 lead. On the stroke of half time Yohan Peiris was on target with a 30 meter penalty to level the scores at 12 a-piece.
After the turn around Police scored through Heshan Thilakaratne with Yohan Peiris adding the extras to take the lead.
Thenuka Nanayakkara penalty took the scores to 19/15 favouring the Cops. Later in the game Chathura Senenviratne the former Kingswood player who is a tough customer to be kept quite started to show his kicking skills putting over 3 penalties within 15 minutes to take the lead for the Red Shirts at 24/19.
Another Ruchira Ekanayake try and Chatura Seneviratne conversion sealed the game for CR at 31/19. There was still time for one more try for the home team when Raveen de Silva sliced through to give the Red Shirts a comfortable 36/19 win.
