Former Thomian, Havelocks and Auckland Sevens player Sudharshan Muthuthanthri will lead the Sri Lankan rugby Sevens outfit at this weekend’s Borneo Rugby Sevens 2018, which will take place in Malaysia.
The Sri Lankan men ended as Plate runners-up last year while the women will be defending the Cup they won in 2017. The Sri Lanka outfit will leave the island on 14 March.
Sri Lanka will miss the services of Omalka Gunaratna, Dhanushka Ranjan and Jason Dissanayake will be missed due to injury worries giving them time to join the squad for the Commonwealth Rugby Sevens next month in the Gold Coast of Australia. Returning to the squad after a gap of three months will be former Peterite and Havies player Kevin Dixon, who suffered a jaw injury in an encounter against CH&FC in round one.
Probable squad: Sudharshana Muthuthanthri (Captain), Adeesha Senarathna, Sithum Peiris, Rehan Silva, Danushka Dyan, Sudam Sooriyarachchi, Kevin Dixon, Chanaka Chandimal, Tharinda Ratwatte, Kavindu Perera, Reza Rafaideen and Buddima Piyaratne.
The team’s Head Coach is Peter Woods from New Zealand. Inthi Marikar is the Sri Lanka Rugby High Performance Director.
