Ceylon Electricity Board, Men’s Champions of the ‘Munchee National Super League Volleyball Championship 2021, receiving the trophy from the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation President Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Dullas Alahapperuma and Ceylon Biscuits Chief Executive Officer Nalin B. Munchee, the flagship brand of Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. (CBL) once again stepped up to support the country’s national sport by sponsoring the annual Munchee National Super League Volleyball Championship with the ultimate goal of driving the Sri Lankan National team to achieve recognition and victory at the Asian Volleyball Championship tournament.
The event was elevated by the launch of a theme song created by Sri Lanka for the National Volleyball team ahead of the Asian Volleyball Championship. The song will be played around the country, attracting the ardent volleyball fanbase, instilling pride for the national sport and cheering the team in anticipation of a successful victory.
The Championship was attended by the presence of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament and Sri Lanka Volleyball Federation President Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and Minister of Power and Renewable Energy Dullas Alahapperuma.
A truly Sri Lankan company, Munchee has committed to support the Sri Lankan National volleyball team to emerge victorious at the Asian Volleyball Championship, which is scheduled to be held during August in Japan. Sri Lanka’s premium volleyball tournament, the Munchee National Volleyball Championship is, importantly, the main pathway for the selection of members to the Sri Lankan national team. The finals of the Super League Championship were held on Saturday 13 March at the Maharagama Youth Centre.
Commenting on the successfully concluded championship, Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. CEO Nalin B. Karunaratne said, “We are delighted to witness true sportsmanship and spirit at the Munchee National Volleyball Championship 2021. We truly believe that our national team has the talent to perform well and emerge as a winner at the Asian Championship. The tournament drew in a large number of participants from across the nation. Emerging as the overall winners in the Men’s Super League category, Ceylon Electricity Board earned the top spot by defeating Bitu Link Sports Club, while Sri Lanka Army walked away with the Women’s Super League champion title, eliminating the Sri Lanka Air Force at the finals.
Munchee’s contribution towards sports in Sri Lanka extends beyond simple corporate sponsorships. CBL has committed towards the development of a number of locally-played sports and is determined to support sporting activities which help to unite communities and encourage togetherness and harmony.
