The last weekend of February seemed to be the perfect setting for racing as spectators witnessed two days of excitement and adrenaline. The event saw Mobil Brand Ambassadors Dinesh Jayawardana and Dilan Seneviratne start Sri Lanka’s racing season in dominant fashion, recording wins in their respective race categories.
The crowd in attendance was also treated to something special as Dilan Seneviratne, driving a Formula, set the new course record at the Southern Eliyakanda Hill Climb – clocking in at a remarkable 32.42 secs. This marked the first time in almost ten years in which a Formula has held the record for the fastest time over the much more fancied Super Cars which have seemed untouchable in the last decade.
Seneviratne went on to break the course record his fellow Mobil teammate Dinesh Jayawardana had set during the event last year. Commenting on the achievement, he went on to say, “it is truly an honor to be the new record holder and to put Formulas back on the map here in Sri Lanka. Knowing that the last time a Formula held this record was almost ten years ago makes this accomplishment that much more special.”
He went on to break two more records, registering the fastest timings in the Modified Formula and Standard Formula Ford events. Furthermore, he went on to achieve the ‘Fastest Timing for Cars for the Day’ and the ‘Overall Fastest Timing for the Day’.
The event also saw Dinesh Jayawardana registering a victory in his pet event, the SLGT up to 3500CC ahead of Ashan Silva and Darin Weerasinghe.
Overall, it was a riveting weekend of racing which showcased the true passion and determination of Team Mobil.
