Sri Lanka Men’s Sevens outfit under Sudarshana Muthuthanthri ended on number 4, improving from number 6 last year, while the Women’s Sevens team, who defended the title this year, fell to number 3 at the Borneo Rugby Sevens which was worked off in Malaysia last weekend.
Day 3 saw both the Men’s and Women’s being knocked out of the finals and locking horns in the third place play off. Men’s played Hong Kong while the Women’s battled it out with Singapore. Men’s lost the battle in a close encounter, while the well-organised Women’s beat Singapore to remain at number 3 in this year’s event.
Adeesha Weeratunge and Sithum Peiris made their debut at this event but will find it tough to fly to Commonwealth Games in Australia next month when the seniors return to the squad after their well-earned rest.
