Sri Lanka Men’s outfit under Srinarth Sooriyabandara ended a very good event at the Commonwealth Rugby Sevens 2022 in United Kingdom. Sri Lankan Men’s started its representation at the Malaysian event in 1998 did the country proud when they gave a good account of themselves though ending on the losing side in many events. In the play off for the 13th place Sri Lanka lost out to Jamaican outfit 26/24 to secure 14th place out of the 16 countries.
Men’s outfit was coached by Nilfer Ibrahim. Buddhima Piyarathne (20), Nigel Ratwatte (19) and Tharinda Ratwatte (15) were the highest points scorers for Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile the Women’s outfit who made their debut at this event ended last losing out to South Africa 54/0 in the 7th place play off. Women’s outfit was led by Sri Lanka Air Force player, Anusha Attanayake with Saliya Kumara heading the coaching unit.
