It has been another fruitful year for the McLarens Shuttlers, setting new standards and benchmarks in almost all badminton tournaments they participated in.
They ended the year by adding another impressive victory by becoming the Overall Champions at the 35th Mercantile Individual Tournament 2018. Starting on 2 December, the tournament lasted till the 9th with 26 Shuttlers participating across 13 different divisions.
The McLarens Shuttlers very skilfully secured a total of 11 Championships, five Runners Up positions, five 3rd place podiums and two 4th place finishes which propelled them to victory. The championships won included Mixed ‘A’ Doubles, Women’s ‘A’ Doubles, Men’s ‘B’ Singles, Mixed ‘B’ Doubles, Men’s ‘B’ Doubles, Women’s ‘C’ Singles, Women’s ‘C’ Doubles, Men’s Over 35 Singles, Men’s Over 35 Doubles, Men’s Over 45 Singles and Men’s Over 45 Doubles.
Illmee De Silva, one of the gifted players, scooped up a triple championship for her astounding performance in the Women’s ‘C’ Singles, Mixed ‘B’ Doubles and Women’s ‘C’ Doubles. In addition, another noteworthy achievement from the McLarens Shuttlers was when the players dominated the top four places in the Women’s ‘C’ Division category.
