Sri Lanka Cricket will commence the Major Inter-Club with the T20 tournament in order to give the opportunity for the local players to be included in the Player Draft for the third edition of Lanka Premier League (LPL) that is scheduled to be held in August.
Usually the Major Inter-Club begins with the league (three-day) tournament but in this instance a change has been made as the LPL Player Draft for local cricketers has to be submitted by at least mid-June.
The Major T20 tournament is scheduled to be run in May-June with 26 clubs participating and is due to be completed by 13 June. It will be followed by the Major Limited-Over (50-over) tournament and the Major League (3-day) tournament which will be run concurrently from June to October with 26 clubs participating.
The 2022 season commenced with the National Super League One-Day (50-over) tournament in January-February with the participation of five teams and currently the National Super League four-day tournament is underway also with five teams in contention and scheduled to be completed with the final from 7-10 April.
SLC has also scheduled an inaugural LPL T10 tournament to be run with about 6-8 franchise teams in December. (ST)
