MCA “D” division 40 over League Tournament 2020 gets underway

Pioneer food manufacturer, Ceylon Biscuits Ltd. (CBL Group), who won accolades at Best Corporate Citizen Awards 2018, is the new sponsor for the MCA “D” division 40 over League Tournament 2020.

The tournament which is being conducted with 14 teams, pooled into two groups and got underway during the weekend of 7 and 8 December, contested for the brand new ‘CBL Munchee Biscuits’ Trophy. 

The teams vying for CBL Munchee Biscuits Trophy are:

Group “A” – Colombo Dockyard, Nawaloka Hospitals, MAS Bodyline,  Maliban Biscuits, Airport & Aviation Services, Hirdaramani Group and Mode Engineering. 

Group “B”: Hemas Group, David Pieris Motor Co., Ansell Lanka, NDB Bank, Delmege Group, Central Finance and Melwire Rolling. 

Mode Engineering is making their debut at MCA Cricket. 

Last season, DFCC Bank emerged as the winner, beating Central Finance by three wickets, in the Final played on 23 February 2019 at the MCA Grounds. 

The tournament will be conducted in two stages consisting a total of 49 matches including the Final.

The 1st Stage – The “league”, consisting 42 matches is being played from 7 December up to 26 January 2020.

The 2nd stage – the “Knock-out” consisting seven matches will be conducted on 1, 2 February (quarter finals), 9 February (Semi Finals) and 15 February (Final).

The 49 matches are spread around, DS Senanayake, Army Panagoda, Army Mattegoda, St. Benedict’s College Kotahena, St. Joseph’s College, Darley Road, Central College, Veyangoda, Wesley College Campbell Park, NSCA Ratmalana and MCA Grounds. 

Special awards on offer are for the Best Batsman, Best Bowler, Man of the Final and Man of the Series. 

The Player Control Team: All matches will be officiated by MCA appointed Match Referee, the on field umpires will be assigned by the Association of Professional Cricket Umpires (PCU) and the scoreboard scorers assigned by Sri Lanka Cricket Scorers. 

The official match ball:  Matches up to the Final will be played with the Pakistan made Royal Malik/World of Cricket Red Ball with the MCA Logo appearing on it. 

The official sponsorship cheque handing over ceremony together with the media conference was held on 6 December at 6:30 p.m. at the MCA fine dining restaurant The Pitch.  

Present at the above occasion were General Manager Marketing Janmesh Paul Anthony, Marketing Manager Romesh Jayatillake and Trade Marketing Manager Athula Wellagiriya all from Ceylon Biscuits; the MCA was represented by President Rohana Dissanayake, Senior Vice President Nalin Wickremesinghe and General Secretary Sirosha Gunatillake.  

The opening weekend match program: Saturday 7 December – Colombo Dockyard vs. Nawaloka Hospitals at DSS Grounds and Hirdaramani Group vs. Mode Engineering at Army Panagoda; Sunday 8 December – Ansell Lanka vs. NDB at Army Mattegoda and Central Finance vs. Melwire Rolling at SBC Kotahena.
