Sri Lanka Men’s sevens outfit, led by Sudarshana Muthuthanthri, accounted for the Cup Championship at the Paris World Games last weekend in Paris.
The National outfit, known as Lanka Lions, won all their matches without breaking a sweat. This was good preparation for next month’s Asian Games in Indonesia and the Asian Sevens Series in Hong Kong, South Korea and Sri Lanka.
In the final, Lanka Lions beat the French outfit Bagneux by a 50 points to nothing win. In the group encounters, Lanka Lions beat Leopard Sevens 41/10, Club HEC 25/0 and Ocean Sevens 33/12.
Nishon Perera and Dinuk Amarasinghe both missed out on tour due to visa delays. The Lanka Lions outfit was coached by New Zealander Peter Woods.
Sri Lanka will be hoping to bring the first team medal at the Asian Games in Indonesia. The first leg of the Asian Sevens will take place in Hong Kong, and the second leg will move to South Korea. Both will take place in the month of September. The final leg will be worked off at the Racecourse grounds in Colombo.
