President of the Court of Appeal Hon. Justice A.H.M.D. Nawaz and Justice Sobhitha Rajakaruna refused to grant the interim order prayed for by the President and the Secretary of the Nuwara Eliya Motor Racing Club (NMRC) in case CA 253/2020 preventing the Annual General Meeting of Sri Lanka Automobile Sports (SLAS) being held next Monday (31 August).
The President and Secretary of the Nuwara Eliya Motor Racing Club prayed for an interim order from the Court of Appeal preventing SLAS from holding its AGM sighting that they (NMRC) had not been recognised as an affiliated club of the governing body of motor sports in Sri Lanka.
The Court of Appeal issued notice on 29 respondents including the newly appointed Minister of Sports and the case to be called on 5 October.
Counsels Kaushal Nawarathne and Mokshini Jayamanne, instructed by Shrimal Jayasinghe appeared for the members of SLAS while Sanjaya Fonseka appeared for the Petitioners. The new office bearers of SLAS will be elected uncontested if the AGM is held as scheduled.
