Housekeeping wins BMICH Annual Cricket Tournament Championship Trophy

BMICH, Sri Lanka’s most recognisable and iconic landmark organised their Annual Inter-Department Cricket Tournament at the Thurstan College Grounds in Colombo recently with the patronage of the senior management team. The main objective of organising this cricket tournament was to enhance employee engagement and further encourage team spirit among the BMICH staff. 

10 teams comprising BMICH employees participated in the tournament which was held in the limited over format at which the Housekeeping Department emerged the winners of the Champions Trophy after an intense competition consisting of several rounds of exciting matches. The Main Office Team emerged as runners up.

Chanaka Pradeep from Housekeeping was adjudged Man of the Series and Man of the Match. The Awards for the Best Bowler and Best Batsman of the Series went to Chathura Prabath Gunathilaka and Chandana Harischandra of the Main Office team.

The Bandaranaike Center for International Studies (BCIS) Ladies’ Team showed their talent by defeating the BMICH Main Office Ladies’ Team to win the BMICH Women’s Cricket Championship Trophy. Kanchana Senevirathne from BCIS was adjudged as the Woman of the Match and Best Batswoman while Nisansala Yapa from the BMICH Main Team received the Best Bowler award.

BMICH Director/Chief Executive Sunil Dissanayake speaking at the tournament noted the importance of such events in building team spirit and leadership skills among employees.

“BMICH is an iconic organisation in Sri Lanka and South Asia which is committed to customer satisfaction and team work. It is important that employees are provided an environment to perform their functions in a positive atmosphere, and also to provide the opportunity for them to excel in sports to build team spirit and camaraderie as all employees play a major role in the achievements of the BMICH,” he added.

BMICH – the award winning iconic venue for events, conferences and conventions in South Asia – recently commemorated 45 years of distinguished service to Sri Lanka and the globe. The BMICH is today widely regarded as one of the finest venues to host any event of national and international stature.

Set in a sprawling site with 15 well laid out, spacious car parks that can accommodate 3,000 vehicles at a given time and well maintained landscaped gardens, BMICH is Sri Lanka’s largest and Asia’s very first purpose-built convention centre with ultra-modern facilities. BMICH was presented the Regional Gold Award as South Asia’s Leading Meeting & Convention Venue at the prestigious South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) Ceremony held in Mumbai, India recently. BMICH has also won the South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) in 2016, 2017 and Quality ERA Award in 2016 and 2017 in Geneva and Paris respectively.
