HSBC and the Sri Lanka Golf Union held the first-ever HSBC Future Lions – Golf Grass Root Program, which brought together over 300 kids from across four cities in Sri Lanka.
The program held in Kandy saw over 90 kids participate, while Nuwara Eliya had over 50 kids. Over 50 kids participated in Colombo, whilst Anuradhapura and Kilinochchi saw an overall turn out of over 100 kids.
Over 80 kids selected for round two will now go through further training at the respective golf courses and four selected kids will receive an annual golf scholarship and a customised junior golf set courtesy of Callaway to further continue the game.
The program coincided with the first-ever HSBC Junior International Golf Championship held on 10 August at Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC), in which Sri Lanka won the team championship by beating the junior golfers from Pakistan. The HSBC Junior Golf Championship (Individual event) saw a record 100 entries.
