The U19 All Island School Basketball Championship, sponsored by ThePapare.com – Sri Lanka’s #1 Sports
Hub, namely, The Papare Basketball Championship 2019, concluded at the Nalanda College Basketball
Court Complex on 3 November 2019.
The tournament featured 85 schools from around the island, it being the first time all three divisions (A,
B, C) in both girls’ and boys’ categories of the tournament were sponsored.
The ‘A’ Division Boys’ title was grabbed by Gateway College, Colombo as they beat St. Peter’s College in a thrilling final encounter. Both teams put on a good show in the forty minutes of play, however
Gateway College ended victorious as the full-time scores read 75-67.
The ‘A’ Division Girls’ final featured the same two teams as the 2018 final as St. Joseph’s Girls’ School, Nugegoda took on Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya. The defending champions St. Joseph’s Girls’
School lost the 2019 edition as Holy Family Convent emerged victorious in a tight affair 36-40.
The ‘B’ Division Boys’ title was another exciting contest between Colombo International School and
D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo. It was an easy win for the lads from Colombo International School, as they closed the game with a 23-point win, 50-73.
The girls’ title of the ‘B’ Division was a tussle between Vishaka Vidyalaya and St. Lawrence’s Convent, Colombo 04. Vishaka Vidyalaya earned the win 57-31.
Gateway College, Kandy beat Dharmashoka College, Amabalangoda for the ‘C’ Division Boys’ title, with full time scores reading 54-50. The girls’ title of the same division was won by Lyceum International School, Wattala, as they beat Methodist College, Colombo, 36-39.
It was the fourth consecutive year ThePapare.com powered Sri LankaSchools’ Basketball, and the second consecutive year where all the players who participated in the tournament were given playing kits by the sponsor.
