Sri Lanka national selectors named a side with four changes for the second leg of the Asia Rugby Sevens 2019 which will take place in China on 14 and 15 September. Sri Lanka Men’s ended as Plate champions (fifth place) in the eight-team event which was a disappointing one.
NaveenHenakankanamge, Thilina Wijesinghe, Anuradha Herath and Nishon Perera all part of the first leg in South Korea will not make their way to China. Their places will be taken over by Iroshan Silva, Adeesha Weeratunge, Thilina Bandara and Gemunu Chethiya. Iroshan, Bandara and Gemunu will make their national debut at senior level at this event. Meanwhile Chathura Seneviratne, the 13th man, will be on tour as the replacement player.
Women’s who ended on number six, losing out to Thailand in the Plate final, will miss out on Ayesha Perera, Randika Kumudumali, Shanika Madumali and Heevani Gunawardena all in the injured list. Their places will be taken over by Dilini Kanchana, Nadeeka Munasinghe, Kumari Dilrukshi and Sanjeewani Perera who will make their way to China. The women’s outfit is sponsored by SAGT.
