Rangana Herath and Dhammika Prasad are among 19 former players participating in a special International Cricket Council (ICC) coaching program in Sri Lanka. The six-day ICC Global Level 3 Coaching Course began on 6 December and has been by the Coach Education Unit of Sri Lanka Cricket.
The course will have 24 participants in total. The full list of former players taking part reads as follows: Rangana Herath, Dhammika Prasad, Chamara Silva, Ajantha Mendis, Ravindra Pushpakumara, Chamila Gamage, Darshana Gamage, Jehan Mubarak, Gayan Wijekoon, Sajeewa De Silva, Sajeewa Weerakoon, Niroshan Bandaratilleke, Saman Jayantha, Muthumudalige Pushpakumara, Sachith Pathirana, Thilina Kandamby, Malintha Warnapura and Indika De Seram.
ICC Coach Educators Ziyaad Parker, Ashley Ross and Roland Lefebvre will be conducting the course, while the SLC Coach Education Unit Head Heshan De Mel and SLC Coach Educator Tharaka Samaratunga helped facilitate the ICC in conducting the program.
“We are striving hard to build up a good coach base by introducing new programs into our coach education system which will help us in developing talented coaches to unearth fresh talents from grassroots,” said Chief Cricket Operations Officer of SLC and head of the SLC High Performance Centre Asanka Gurusinha.
While this is the first time a level three coaching program is being held in the island, SLC had recently conducted a level two coaching program.
