Daham Wimalasena, a former Chairman of the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), former Member of Parliament and a top cricket administrator has passed away.
Wimalasena was the CPC Chairman for about nine years from the late seventies and was also briefly a Member of Parliament during the Presidency of J.R. Jayawardene.
When Gamini Dissanayake was president of the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka (BCCSL) in the eighties, Wimalasena was one of the Vice Presidents along with T. Murugesar and Raja Mahendran.
Wimalasena helped cricket in many ways towards sponsorship of the provincial cricket tournament started by the late Gamini Dissanayake. He became a trustee of the Sri Lanka Cricket Foundation in 1990 and from 2004-2013 was its Chairman after which he was succeeded by Nuski Mohamed.
A man who shied away from publicity Wimalasena was in his mid- eighties at the time of his death. His remains lie at Jayaratne funeral parlour. The funeral takes place on Friday at Kanatte at 4 p.m. (ST)
